As an example of the emergence of battery technologies, for back-up power, other than lead-acid systems, Cobasys, a provider of energy storage systems using their NiGUARD® NiMH battery technology, announced that it has completed the installation of a backup power system for Automation Alley's data system.
The Cobasys system will provide emergency back-up power for Automation Alley's data center and lighting systems at their facility in Troy, Michigan. The system provide lower cost of ownership, longer cycle life, a smaller footprint and reduce weight requirements by as much as 66% compared to lead acid systems.The newly installed Cobasys system consists of two cabinets with six-48 volt NiGUARD boxes in parallel providing approximately 80 kW per cabinet.
Cobasys is a joint venture between Chevron Technology Ventures LLC, a subsidiary of Chevron Corporation (NYSE: CVX - News) and Energy Conversion Devices, Inc. (Nasdaq: ENER - News).
